Kirsty : Well sci-fi and fantasy books are great relaxation and they also help to stretch the imagination, sometimes they even make you think. These are our opinions on particular authors and their books, and, where we could find them, links to sites with more info.
Kirsty : Yes you guessed! The dragonlance series of books. I was reccommended these books and now i can't believe i took so long to getting around to reading them. What can i say? I am completely enthralled. Although as much as people keep telling me that Raistlin is evil i cannot help but see some good in his actions at times. Is this a plot by the authors to make us think? Or is it merely the romantic soul of a crazy student?
Kal : Having read the chronicles and The Time of The Twins i have to agree with Kirst (as much as that pains me) that Raistlin isn't really pure evil. Besides like the Gods above, down below the balance of evil, goodness and neutrality must be maintained.
Kirsty : And why should that pain you? I am disappointed in my local libraries though in there extreme lack of good titles. You would think that with Dragonlance being almost a cult, that libraries would understand that they need to stock more of the volumes.
Kirsty : Yes another great series of books following the Ohmsford family as they lend a hand to the druids. The heroes are extremely likeable and the bad guys are very evil. Classic struggle between right and wrong, light and dark, good and evil, guess who wins? But Terry provides a nice personal insight into his characters so that you almost feel like a confidante.
I don't have that many of the Shannara series left to read. I wonder if he's going to bring out any more. I'll have to investigate i think.
Kal : No comment.
Kirsty : Wow, what can i say. I've read the new book in the wars of light and shadow series, Alliance of light book 1: the fugitive prince. I read it in a day and it was absolutely fantastic, the only sad thing is that i have to wait another 2 years before the next part is out. This of the first fantasy series i ever read and i love them. A great contrast here where light plays the misguided fool, and shadow is the pitiable hero. You can't help but fall for the suffering of Arithon as he struggles not to succumb, as his brother has, to the curse of the mistwraith.
Kal : i kinda lost you after dragonlance, there goes every spare minute of the rest of my existence.
Kirsty : Well this is something you really must read.
Kal : You say that about everything...
Kirsty : Yeah, and i'm usually right!
Kal : Yeah yeah...
Kirsty : I have been reading the Deverry series of books and i have to say that they are extremely good. Perhaps the only downside is the fact that she keeps putting a lind of flashback into her books, i must admit i prefer the modern Deverry 1062 onwards to the previous eras.
Just read the new book as well. Part one of the dragon mage. Pretty neat but i'll have to wait ages now for the next one. What does the raven woman want with Rhodry?
Kirsty : Is it just me or is Anne one of the best writers around. I've read almost all of the Pern series, both books in the Catteni series, and a lot of others in between. Although some of them don't look appealing at first i always find that when i start to read them i can't put them back down. Now that's magic!
